Half Moon is located in the parish of St. James on the beautiful Caribbean island of Jamaica. It is only a 15-minute drive from Montego Bay’s Sangster International Airport, which offers daily flights from a number of gateway cities in North America and Europe. In addition to a variety of international airlines, Jamaica also welcomes some of the world’s most popular cruise ships, which often include Jamaica (and particularly Montego Bay) in their lists of must-see destinations.

In 1954, a group of wealthy individuals chose to build an exclusive vacation resort on a perfectly shaped crescent beach that they aptly named "Half Moon." That same year, the resort officially opened with 17 whitewashed cottages and 30 beachfront homes. As it does today, the resort attracted many luminaries of the day, including Joan Crawford and her husband Alfred Steel (CEO of Pepsi-Cola), Clark Gable and HRH Princess Margaret. Other notable past guests include HRH Queen Elizabeth II, Prince Rainer of Monaco, former U.S. President John F. and Jacqueline Kennedy, and George H. W. Bush.

To obtain a marriage license in Jamaica, you will need certified copies of your birth certificates with your father’s names, proof of divorce (if applicable), and a fee of $250 USD.  There are no residency requirements, but there is a 24-hour waiting period once an application has been filed with the Registrar General’s Department.

Though the official language of Jamaica is English, Jamaicans primarily speak Jamaican Patois, an English-African Creole language that has become known widely through Reggae music.

currency

The Jamaican Dollar is Jamaica’s preferred currency, but the US dollar is widely accepted as well.  All major credit cards are generally accepted, and the majority of ATM machines will accept international bank cards.
